You've Got a Friend in Me

Have you ever found yourself wondering where you could find a friend? It seems hard in our fast paced world to connect with people in real and meaningful ways. People slip into and out of our lives before we have a chance to really get to know them. Sometimes we think we know people, and we risk sharing important things with them only to have it thrown back in our faces. Even worse what we shared in confidence is used against us as people seek an advantage in the race to climb some supposedly important success ladder. Friends seem disposable, and the experience makes us less open and more cautious about those we let into our lives.

However, the truth is that all of us need other people. We need people we can be real with. That is exactly what God wants to give each of us, a relationship that is reliable, authentic; a friendship that is based on genuine care. A paraphrase of what Jesus told those closest to him is that he was there for them no matter what. “I care about you. I will never leave you or betray you. You’ve got a friend in me.” That is a refreshing feeling to me as I experience that among the people at Wesley Foundation.

If you would like to experience the refreshing difference that a friendship with God can bring, visit the Wesley Foundation and join our circle of friends. Deep friendship is a spiritual need for all of us. So as friends we offer a safe place for everyone to come and explore what life really means to them, to ask hard questions, and be treated with respect as together we explore and experience the power of our friendship with God. The Wesley Foundation is a place where people who have little or no church experience can, come as they are, hang out and be loved no matter what. It’s a place to be you, where relationships are real and where everybody knows your name.

If this sounds like what you have been seeking, I look forward to meeting you at the Wesley Foundation. There is no better place to be on Wednesday evenings than among your friends.

Peace,

Don Meeks
Campus Minister
